Condition: Excellent pre-owned antique condition. No chips, cracks, or crazing. Some minor paint wear on plates. Please see photos.
Details: Fish service comprised of a large platter and 12 plates. Are are modified coupe shapes with gently ribbed and scalloped rims. Platter and each plate are hand-painted and signed by artist De Nerval. Each piece depicts a pair of fish, each one different, and a floral motif, primarily water lilies and orchids on a background of umber and peach with touches of pale blue. A heavy hand-painted gold trim (1/2-3/4" wide) follows the curved scallops on the edges. White porcelain exterior is stamped on the bottom with Coiffe & Cie's green star mark with "LIMOGES" and "FRANCE" above and below the underglaze. Stamped overglaze with L.R.L.'s dull green mark, circa 1920.
Coiffe & Cie was a porcelain factory producing blanks, or unpainted white porcelain pieces, to be decorated by other Limoges concerns. Lazeyras, Rosenfeld & Lehman was one of these decorating companies.
